Satin Fabric
Satin Fabric used to be made out of silk,
but is now commonly made of rayon, acetate, nylon, polyester,
or long staple cotton.
The standard width for satin fabric is 58-60 inches.
When buying any kind of fabric, check the end of the bolt for
washing and drying instructions, or ask the salesperson. You need
to know about the care of your material.
When buying satin fabric, check the back of the pattern you are
using to see if satin fabric is recommended.
Satin is very easy to sew, but make sure you have a sharp, new needle,
as satin fabric snags very easily.
Make sure your hands and everything else is spotless when working with
dry-clean only fabric. Don't take your coffee or soda in the sewing room.
Satin can be ironed at the heat setting for the material the satin is made
from. I recommend testing with the iron first, ironing on the reverse (back) of
the fabric, and making sure my iron was spotless, and did not have any water
in it to waterspot the satin fabric.
